02/13/2012 - Being Single On Valentine's Day

What's the worse thing about being single and without a date on Valentine's Day?

I've asked this question all laast week and had recieved so many different answers. Majority of the females said "No Gifts". and more of the guys were concerned with missing the company of a female companion. If you ask this question in a group be prepared to walk away, the guy's will blame all the girls saying they were only after gifts, cards, chocolates, flowers and they wouldnt care who the guy is. The girls of course would agree and gifts would showcase the love the guy had for the girl. If a girl takes so much time to look pretty and put alot of effort into making the guy feel wanted then the least he could do is to buy her a gift.

To be honest I was surprised that no one mentioned LOVE. Yes, Valentines is orignally about love, but somewhere down this path true love has given up it's roll to having fun and that's what seem to matter most these days. Wouldn't being dateless on Valentines Day bring you a step down in the peer group or general social status? A few years ago being dateless on this day either ment you were prude or just considered a poor thing who couldn't find a date let alone true love. Hell I know people who went on random dates with guys jsut so they can hold their "Queen Bee" status in the lil groups. If that didn't work to well people started celebrating Valentine's Day with their BFF's doing anything to bond while making each other feel charished and wanted.

How can you forget the being single movement, when being single became the order of the day. Spa's and other businesses would come up with offers for singles to spoil themselves, encourage them to forget about love and just have fun. I know many people who went out like this, hooked up and come home with dates. Then there are the extremist who throw an Anti-Valentine's Day party to show they really don't care, but I think this is LAME. If you don't like Valentine's Day then just keep it to your self.

Me personally I don't love or hate Valentine's Day and I'm very happy being single although at times it's get lonely but that doesn't stop me from wondering about my question ~ What could be the worst thing about being single on Valentines Day? Listening to what everyone else thought and taking it all in my own perspective and my experiences I've come to the conclusion that the worst thing could possibly be to feel bad for yourself. Whether you are single or commmited, if you are not happy with yourself or your relationship then all I can tell you it's time for a change in attitude. Vision the way that you would like to be and work towards it and like yourself along the way. Allow this Valentine's Day be a reminder of that goal! Happy Valentines Day 2012!

Very well said Ross. People have to remember that being single is a very important part of a growing process. We have to grow and learn to love ourselves before we can love someone else and we have to learn ourselves and have our life on track before we can really find love and truly be happy sharing our life with someone else. I was single for little over a year before I met the person I am with and although I wouldnt go back, I will say that year was one of the best years of my life! You can be happy and single! -Courtney

On point. Though I think it is wrong to have a single day appointed for love. It is what it is. So if the one you love chooses to ignore that, & doesn't show love in return. Then that can be a total let down.
